WAC Lighting PAR38BD-BK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which WAC track heads does the PAR38BD barn door fit?
The PAR38BD barn door is made for WAC Lighting 178 and 188 track heads used with PAR38 lamps. It mounts to WAC Impulse track and display fixtures running those two head models. If your heads are a different WAC series, this accessory is not the one to order.
2) Can a PAR38 barn door be used on a covered exterior walkway or a damp area?
Yes, within limits. The PAR38BD is UL and cUL Listed for damp locations, which covers indoor use and covered outdoor areas like soffits, canopies, and covered walkways. It is not rated for direct exposure to rain or wet locations.
3) What finishes does the WAC PAR38BD barn door come in?
Three finishes are orderable: black (PAR38BD-BK), brushed nickel (PAR38BD-BN), and white (PAR38BD-WT). Pick the one matching your existing track head so the accessory disappears into the fixture rather than standing out on a retail or gallery ceiling.
4) What does a barn door actually do on a track head, and do I need one?
A barn door is a set of adjustable solid metal flaps that mount at the front of the track head and fold in to block spill light. You use it where glare or light trespass is a problem: artwork and merchandise lighting, display cases, or any head aimed where occupants can see into the lamp. It does not change the beam spread of the lamp itself, it just cuts off the edges of the beam. If glare is not an issue on your opening, you do not need one.
5) Is the WAC PAR38BD barn door metal or plastic?
Solid metal, with an aluminum base material. That matters next to the heat of a PAR38 lamp and for repeated readjustment in a retail space where displays get relit often.
