WAC Lighting PD-61506-WT – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the WAC Lighting 61506 Close Encounters mini-pendant be used over a covered porch or in a bathroom?
The Close Encounters mini-pendant carries a Damp location rating and is ETL and cETL Listed, so covered porches, covered entries, and bathrooms outside the shower spray zone are fine. It is not rated for wet locations, so keep it out of direct rain or anywhere it takes running water.
2) Does the WAC 61506 pendant need a separate LED driver or transformer?
No. It uses an integrated AC LED module wired straight to 120V line voltage, so there is no remote driver or transformer to find space for. It mounts to a standard pancake junction box on the ceiling and is hardwired, not plug-in.
3) Will the Close Encounters mini-pendant work with a standard wall dimmer?
It is not a wall-dimmer fixture. Dimming is sensor controlled: wave your hand within about three inches of the fixture to turn it on, off, and dim it. Put it on a standard switched circuit and leave the dimmer out of the plan, since the control is on the fixture itself.
4) Can this pendant be hung on a sloped ceiling, and can the cord length be adjusted?
Yes on both. The electrified cable suspension is sloped-ceiling compatible, and push-pin connectors in the canopy let you set the hanging height on site without cutting or splicing power wire.
5) Does the WAC Close Encounters pendant meet California Title 24 for a residential kitchen?
It is CEC Title 24 Compliant, which is what a California job needs for the lighting schedule. Note it is not Energy Star listed and is not ADA compliant, so if the spec calls for either of those, this is the wrong fixture.
6) How much light does an 8W LED pendant like the WAC 61506 actually put out, and how many do I need over an island?
624 lumens at 8 watts, 3000K warm white, with a CRI of 90 and a flood beam. That is accent-level output per fixture, not general room lighting, so a typical kitchen island runs two or three of them spaced along the length rather than one on its own.
7) Is the LED in the WAC 61506 replaceable, or is the whole pendant throwaway when it fails?
The high-powered LED module is replaceable, so the fixture is not disposable at end of life. Rated life is 50,000 hours, and the module ships installed, so nothing else has to be ordered to light it up.
8) What finish and materials does the 61506-WT come in?
The WT suffix is White. Hardware is aluminum, carrying a glass globe shade with an open base so it throws diffused side light plus a focused downlight beneath. Styling reads modern to transitional.
9) Is there an installation guide for the WAC 61506 mini-pendant?
Yes, WAC publishes an installation guide for the Close Encounters mini-pendant: https://zensupply.com/content/pdf/wac-lighting/installation-guide-013b7a.pdf. Worth reading before rough-in since the fixture lands on a pancake junction box and the canopy connectors set the drop height.
