WAC Lighting WAC-3021-27 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC 3021-27 deck light run straight off my existing 12V landscape lighting system?
Yes, the 3021 Cone deck and patio light taps into a 12V landscape run. It accepts 9-15V AC input at 50/60Hz and draws 2.8W (4.6VA), and it holds constant lumen output as voltage drops along a long run. A magnetic (preferred) or electronic 12V power supply is required. WAC's stainless steel outdoor transformers are the recommended match: 9075-TRN-SS (75W), 9150-TRN-SS (150W), 9300-TRN-SS (300W), and 9600-TRN-SS (600W). No transformer ships with the fixture.
2) Which finish of the WAC 3021 cone light should I use on an oceanfront property?
For coastal or marine-grade sites, go with the Bronze on Brass version, 3021-27BBR. That one is solid brass coated in bronze, which WAC calls out specifically for corrosive salt-air environments. The Black (3021-27BK), Bronze (3021-27BZ), and White (3021-27WT) options are cast k-alloy aluminum, fine for normal exterior use but not the recommended choice near salt water.
3) Is the 3021-27 cone deck light rated to sit out in the rain and get hit by a pressure washer?
It is factory sealed water tight and IP66 rated, which covers high-pressure water jets and general wet location exposure. It carries UL and cUL 1838 listing for wet locations. That makes it suitable for open deck rails, stair risers, and patio walls with no overhead cover.
4) What is the difference between the 2700K and 3000K versions of the WAC deck light?
Color temperature only. The 3021-27 is the 2700K warm white build; WAC also makes the same fixture in 3000K soft white. Output, wiring, and housing are the same either way: up to 60 lumens, 90 CRI, 2.8W. Warm white 2700K reads closer to incandescent and is the usual pick for residential decks and patios where the existing path and step lights are halogen.
5) Can I dim these WAC 12V deck lights?
Yes, but the dimmer has to match the supply. With a magnetic low voltage dimmer on the transformer's line side, the 3021 dims smoothly and continuously down to 10 percent. Standard incandescent or ELV dimmers are not what this fixture is specified for, which is also why WAC lists magnetic as the preferred power supply type.
6) How many of these 12V cone lights can I put on one transformer?
Each 3021 fixture draws 2.8W, or 4.6VA on the transformer. Size the transformer on VA: a 75W 9075-TRN-SS covers roughly 16 fixtures at 4.6VA each, a 150W around 32, and so on up the 9300-TRN-SS and 9600-TRN-SS, leaving the usual headroom for voltage drop and future additions.
7) What comes in the box with the 3021 deck light for making the wire connection?
The fixture ships with a 3ft lead wire and two gel filled direct burial wire nuts, so you can splice to the landscape run without buying separate connectors. What you still need is the 12V supply itself, transformer, main run cable, and any mounting screws or anchors for the surface you are attaching to.
8) Can this WAC cone light be mounted sideways or upside down on a wall?
Yes. The 3021 can be wall mounted in any orientation, so it works on stair risers, under rail caps, and on vertical hardscape faces. The translucent lens diffuses the output evenly, which keeps the beam from glaring back at eye level when it is turned horizontally.
9) How long do these LED deck lights last before they need replacing?
The LED is rated at 50,000 hours. On a dusk-to-dawn landscape schedule that is many years of service, which is the point for a property manager standardizing a deck or stair run, the fixtures are sealed units with no lamp to change.
10) I need these to match cone lights already installed, what shapes does the WAC 12V deck line come in?
WAC's 12V deck and patio line is offered in round, triangle, and rectangular shapes; the 3021 is the round cone. All of them share the same 12V input, so you can mix shapes on a single transformer run and keep the look consistent by staying with one color temperature and finish across the job.
