WAC Lighting HI-BK – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the WAC Lighting HI connector actually do in a track run?
It is the straight inline joiner for WAC H Track: two sections of track butt into it end to end and it carries power across the joint, so a run can be extended in a straight line without a second feed. It is a component, not a kit, so the track sections, the power feed and the fixtures are all ordered separately.
2) Will a WAC H Track I connector fit my existing track, or do I need to match the track type?
Track type has to match. This is an H system connector and it only mates with H track. H, J and L are three different, non-interchangeable track profiles, so if the ceiling already has J or L track the H connector will not engage the conductors. Check the profile of the track you are extending before ordering.
3) Is the H Track I connector 120V line voltage or low voltage?
120 volt line voltage, and it is hardwired into the run rather than plugged in. If the job is a low voltage track system, this is the wrong component.
4) Can I use this track connector in a covered exterior walkway or a bathroom over a shower?
No. The connector is rated for interior, dry locations only, so covered exterior soffits, walkways, parking structures and damp bath or kitchen zones are out. Keep it to conditioned interior space.
5) What finishes does the WAC HI track connector come in so it matches the rest of my track?
Four finishes: black (HI-BK), brushed nickel (HI-BN), dark bronze (HI-DB) and white (HI-WT). For a run that reads as one piece, order the connector in the same finish as the track sections and the feed, since the connector body is visible at the joint.
6) Does the H Track I connector carry a UL listing for a commercial inspection?
It is UL and cUL listed, which covers both US and Canadian jobs. It is also CEC listed. It is not Energy Star and it is not Title 24 compliant, so do not count it toward a California Title 24 lighting submittal.
7) Can I flip the WAC HI connector to correct the polarity of the second run of track?
No, mounting is not reversible. The connector installs one way up, which means the two track sections joined through it keep a consistent conductor orientation. Set the first section's polarity correctly at the power feed, because you cannot rotate the connector to fix it downstream.
8) Should I use an I connector or an L or T connector for my track layout?
The I connector is for a straight extension only, joining two runs end to end on the same axis. If the layout turns a corner or branches, that is an L or T connector instead. For a run that only needs to be longer, over a gallery wall or a corridor, the I is the piece.
9) Is the WAC H Track connector metal or plastic?
The body is aluminum. For a repeat maintenance item in a hotel corridor or retail space where track gets reconfigured, that holds up better at the joint than a molded housing.
