WAC Lighting PDW118620-BK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC Portos LED mini-pendant be installed outdoors where it gets rained on directly?
Yes. The Portos outdoor mini-pendant carries a Wet location rating and is ETL and cETL listed, so it can go on an open porch, patio, or exposed soffit where it takes direct rain, not just a covered damp spot.
2) Will the Portos pendant work on my 277V commercial circuit?
It will. The Portos pendant uses a concealed backplate driver rated for 120V, 240V and 277V, so the same fixture can be ordered for residential 120V entry lighting and for 277V house panels on a commercial building. It is hardwired, not plug-in.
3) Can this outdoor pendant hang from a sloped porch ceiling?
Yes. A hang-straight swivel is included so the fixture plumbs itself on a sloped or vaulted ceiling. It is a ceiling-mount pendant only, so it won't work as a wall sconce.
4) How low will the Portos mini-pendant hang, and do I have to buy rods separately?
Three 12 inch rods and one 6 inch rod ship with the fixture, so you can field-cut the drop in those increments without a second order. If you need a longer drop than the included rods allow, additional extension rods are sold separately.
5) Do I have to pick a color temperature when I order the Portos pendant?
No. Color temperature is selectable at the fixture across 2700K, 3000K, 3500K and 4000K, so one SKU covers a warm residential entry and a cooler commercial walkway. Useful if you are standardizing a multi-building property and want field flexibility instead of four part numbers.
6) Does the Portos mini-pendant meet ADA and California energy code requirements?
It is ADA compliant, and the description states CEC, Title 24 and Title 20 compliance, which is what California jobs and many public walkway specs call for. It is not Energy Star certified, so if your rebate program requires Energy Star specifically this won't qualify.
7) What dimmer do I use with the WAC Portos LED pendant?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) or TRIAC dimmer. Standard magnetic low voltage or incandescent-only controls are not the right match for this driver. On a 277V circuit, confirm your dimmer is rated for that line voltage.
8) Is the Portos pendant bright enough for a commercial entryway?
It puts out 1000 lumens at 15W with a flood beam spread, which suits an entry, porch, or covered walkway where you want even wash rather than a tight downlight. For a larger area, plan on multiple pendants spaced out rather than one fixture.
9) Do I need to order lamps with the Portos pendant?
No lamps to buy. The LED module ships in the fixture, the driver is built into the backplate, and the mounting rods and swivel are in the box. What you supply is the junction box, the branch circuit, and an ELV or TRIAC dimmer if the drop is being dimmed. An installation guide is available for the rough-in.
10) What finish does the Portos outdoor mini-pendant come in?
Black. It is the only finish offered on this pendant, over a weather-resistant powder coat, with a ribbed (fluted) glass diffuser softening the output. If you are matching black exterior hardware across a building, that consistency is the point.
