WAC Lighting R3ASWT-A827-BK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What color temperatures does the WAC Lighting R3ASWT Aether 3.5 inch square wall wash trim come in?
The R3ASWT square wall wash trim is offered in four color temperatures: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K and 4000K, ordered as the 827, 830, 835 and 840 codes in the 85 CRI line (for example R3ASWT-A835-BK for 3500K). On the 90 CRI side the choices narrow to 2700K and 3000K, ordered as R3ASWT-A927-BK and R3ASWT-A930-BK. For spaces where you are grazing a wall or artwork and color rendering matters, the 90 CRI versions are the ones to specify.
2) What is the difference between a wall wash trim and a standard downlight trim for a 3.5 inch recessed can?
A wall wash trim like the Aether R3ASWT throws light asymmetrically, pushing the beam off to one side so it rakes down a vertical surface instead of pooling on the floor. That is what the Asym beam designation on every R3ASWT part number means. Use it in a row set a consistent distance off the wall to light art, stone, millwork or a corridor surface evenly. For general ambient light over a work surface or circulation path, a symmetric downlight trim is the right choice instead.
3) Is the Aether R3ASWT wall wash trim available in any finish besides black?
Black is the finish on every R3ASWT configuration, across all four color temperatures and both CRI levels. If a project calls for white, haze or another trim color to blend with the ceiling, the square wall wash in this part number will not get you there, so plan on a black aperture or pick a different Aether trim style.
4) Can I mix 85 CRI and 90 CRI Aether R3ASWT trims on the same ceiling?
You can physically install them together, but don't. Even at the same nominal 3000K, the 85 CRI (R3ASWT-A830-BK) and 90 CRI (R3ASWT-A930-BK) versions are different light engines and will read differently on a washed wall, where any variation shows up as banding. Standardize on one CRI for a given room or elevation.
5) Which R3ASWT part number do I order for 2700K warm white?
Two run at 2700K: R3ASWT-A827-BK at 85 CRI and R3ASWT-A927-BK at 90 CRI, both square, both asymmetric wall wash, both black. The middle digits of the code are your shorthand, 8 or 9 for the CRI tier and the last two for the color temperature.
