Modern Forms RPL-SMOOTH-RDA – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Modern Forms SMOOTH-RDA diffuser fit my FR-W2502 fan light kit?
Yes. The SMOOTH-RDA rippled acrylic lens is the replacement diffuser for the Smooth series, and that includes the FR-W2502, FH-W2502 and FR-W2601 fixtures. One lens covers all Smooth collection fixtures, so you order the same part no matter which of the three you are repairing.
2) Can I use this rippled diffuser on a covered patio or other wet location?
Wet Location Rated, so it can go on Smooth series fixtures installed outdoors in exposed or covered locations as well as indoors. The rating applies to the lens itself; the fixture it mounts to also has to be rated for the location you are installing in.
3) What is the difference between the rippled diffuser and a plain smooth lens on a Smooth series fixture?
The rippled version has a textured outer surface that refracts the light and cuts glare, giving a warmer, more dimensional glow instead of a flat even wash. If the look you want is uniform brightness, a flat lens reads cleaner; if you have the fixture low in a hallway or over a seating area where people look straight up into it, the ripple is the one that takes the hot spot out.
4) I manage several buildings with Modern Forms Smooth fans. Can I stock one diffuser part number for all of them?
Yes, that is the point of the SMOOTH-RDA. It is the single rippled acrylic lens across the whole Smooth collection, so a property with a mix of FR-W2502, FH-W2502 and FR-W2601 units only needs one replacement lens on the shelf.
5) Is the SMOOTH-RDA just the lens, or does it come with the light kit?
Lens only. The SMOOTH-RDA is a replacement diffuser for an existing Smooth series fixture, not a light kit or LED module. If the LED itself has failed, the diffuser will not fix it.
6) What is the SMOOTH-RDA diffuser made of, and will it yellow like glass alternatives?
It is injection molded acrylic, built with a clear outer layer and a frosted inner surface. Acrylic rather than glass means it is lighter and less likely to chip during handling on a ladder, which matters when you are swapping a lens on an installed ceiling fan.
7) Is there more than one version of the SMOOTH-RDA to choose from?
No options to specify. The rippled acrylic diffuser is sold as a single model, RPL-SMOOTH-RDA, with no finish or size choice to make.
