Modern Forms FR-W2502-52L-BN/SL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Modern Forms FR-W2502 Smooth fan be installed on a covered outdoor patio or porch?
Yes. The FR-W2502 Smooth carries a Wet location rating and is UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL listed, so it can go indoors or outdoors, including covered patios and porches exposed to moisture.
2) What downrod comes with the FR-W2502, and will it work on a high ceiling?
A 6 inch downrod ships with the fan, which suits standard and lower ceilings. For taller rooms you order a longer Modern Forms downrod separately; the 6 inch rod is the only length included.
3) Will this 52 inch Modern Forms fan mount on a sloped ceiling?
Out of the box it handles slopes up to 30 degrees. Between 32 and 45 degrees you need the XF-SCK Slope Ceiling Kit, ordered separately.
4) Do I get a remote with the FR-W2502, or do I need to buy a wall control?
A battery-operated Bluetooth remote with wall cradle (F-RCBT-WT) is included. A hardwired wall control is not; if you want one, the F-WCBT-WT is sold separately and supports 3-way and 4-way switching.
5) Does the Modern Forms Smooth fan work with Alexa or Google Assistant?
It does. Control runs through the free Modern Forms app over Bluetooth, with support for Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Control4 and Josh AI. The app also adds breeze mode, adaptive learning and fan grouping.
6) Can I change the light color temperature on the FR-W2502, or is it fixed?
The integrated LED luminaire is selectable across 2700K, 3000K, 4000K and 5000K, so one fan covers warm residential light through a cooler commercial look. Output is 1497 to 1606 lumens at 90 CRI, with smooth continuous dimming.
7) Can I run this Modern Forms fan without the light on?
Yes. The LED luminaire is replaceable rather than sealed in, and a cover is included to conceal it if you want fan-only operation. If you keep the light, an optional Rippled Acrylic Diffuser (RPL-SMOOTH-RDA) is sold separately.
8) How much air does the FR-W2502 move, and is it enough for a great room?
5,732 CFM across a 52 inch blade span, from three ABS blades at 16 degree pitch. The DC motor is reversible with 6 speeds, so you get low-speed winter circulation as well as full summer airflow.
9) What circuit and load should I plan for when wiring the Smooth ceiling fan?
It is a 120V fixture drawing 48W total for motor and LED combined. The DC motor draws far less than a comparable AC fan, so multiple units on one residential branch circuit is not a concern from a load standpoint.
10) Is the LED in the Modern Forms Smooth fan replaceable, or is the whole fan scrap when it fails?
The LED is a replaceable module, not a throwaway sealed head, which matters for a fleet of fans in a building. Rated life is 50,000 hours. There is no screw-base lamp; the luminaire is an LED module.
11) What finishes does the FR-W2502 Smooth fan come in?
Five: Brushed Nickel Silver, Bronze, Matte Black, Matte White, and Soft Brass with Matte Black. The blades themselves are finished in Silver across the range.
12) Is the FR-W2502 ADA compliant or Energy Star certified?
Neither. The Smooth fan is not ADA compliant and does not carry Energy Star certification. If your project spec calls for either, this is the wrong fan for that opening.
