Modern Forms FR-W2006-52L-GH/WW – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Modern Forms Zephyr ceiling fan be installed on a covered outdoor patio?
Yes. The Zephyr is Wet Location rated, and the listed safety marks are ETL, cETL, UL, cUL and CSA, so it can go on a covered patio, porch or lanai as well as indoors. Wet Location means direct exposure to rain or sprays is permitted, which is a step beyond damp-rated fans that need full overhead protection.
2) Will the Zephyr fan mount on a sloped or vaulted ceiling?
Out of the box the Zephyr handles ceiling slopes up to 30 degrees. For a steeper pitch between 32 and 45 degrees you need the XF-SCK slope ceiling kit. The fan ships with a 4.5 inch downrod; on a vaulted ceiling you will usually want a longer downrod, and those are ordered separately.
3) What blade spans does the Modern Forms FR-W2006 Zephyr come in?
Three sizes: FR-W2006-52, FR-W2006-62 and FR-W2006-72, which are the 52, 62 and 72 inch blade spans. The 52 inch version uses 23.19 inch blades with a 16 degree pitch and moves up to 4655 CFM. All three sizes come in Bronze White Oak, Graphite Weathered Wood, Matte Black, Matte Black Distressed Koa and Matte White.
4) Does the Zephyr smart fan need a special wall control, or does it work with a standard switch?
It ships with a battery-operated Bluetooth handheld remote and wall cradle (Part No. F-RCBT-WT), so no hardwired control is required. If you want a switch in a box on the wall, the F-WCBT-WT hardwired wall control is a separate purchase and supports 3-way and 4-way setups. Do not feed the fan from an existing fan-speed or dimmer switch; it runs on 120V and a DC motor with its own electronics, so a standard non-dimming on/off supply is what it wants.
5) What color temperature does the Zephyr's LED light put out, and can I change it?
The integrated LED luminaire is field-selectable between 2700K, 3000K, 4000K and 5000K, so one fan covers warm residential spaces and cooler task or outdoor areas. It renders at 90 CRI, is dimmable, and the module is rated 50,000 average hours. The luminaire is replaceable rather than sealed in, and a concealment cover is included if you want the fan without a visible light.
6) Can I run several Zephyr fans together across a building or integrate them into a smart home system?
Yes. The free Modern Forms app handles speed, scheduling and grouping of multiple fans, which is how you run a row of patio fans or several units in a great room off one command. It also integrates with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Control4 and Josh AI for whole-house control systems.
7) Why choose a DC motor ceiling fan like the Zephyr over a standard AC fan?
The Zephyr uses a reversible DC motor with 6 speeds, which Modern Forms states is up to 70 percent more efficient than an AC motor, and it is factory balanced and sound tested for quiet running. Practically, you get finer speed control and a reverse setting for winter downdraft, at the cost of needing the included Bluetooth remote or the optional hardwired control rather than a pull chain.
8) Are the Zephyr blades wood, and will they hold up outdoors?
The blades are ABS plastic, finished to look like wood in options such as White Oak, Weathered Wood and Distressed Koa. That matters for exterior and poolside work: ABS does not swell, warp or delaminate the way real timber blades do, which is part of why the fan carries a Wet Location rating.
9) Is the Modern Forms Zephyr fan ADA compliant for a healthcare or public facility spec?
The Zephyr is not an ADA compliant product. For specs that call for ADA compliant devices in the space, treat the fan control location as the item to coordinate rather than the fan itself, and note the fan is a 120V ceiling-mounted unit on a downrod.
