Modern Forms FR-W2303-60L-BN/MB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Modern Forms Aura FR-W2303 ceiling fan be installed on a covered patio or porch?
Yes. The Aura FR-W2303 carries a Wet Location rating with UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL listings, so it can go indoors or outdoors, including exposed and covered exterior locations. The ABS blades hold up better than wood in humidity, and the fan runs on standard 120V.
2) Will the Aura FR-W2303 fan mount on a sloped ceiling?
It is rated for slope ceilings up to 30 degrees. It ships with a 6 inch downrod, which sets the blade height on a flat ceiling; for taller ceilings or steeper drops you order a longer Modern Forms downrod separately.
3) What size room does a 60 inch or 72 inch Aura fan cover?
The Aura comes as the FR-W2303-60 and the FR-W2303-72. The 60 inch version sweeps 60 inches with eight 26 inch blades at a 16 degree pitch and moves up to 7656 CFM, which suits large bedrooms, living rooms and dining areas. The 72 inch model is the one to pick for great rooms and wide covered patios where you need the sweep to reach further.
4) Does a wall switch come with the Modern Forms Aura, or do I need to order one?
A battery-operated Bluetooth handheld remote with a wall cradle is included. A hardwired wall control is not included and is a separate order, so if a unit or guest room needs a fixed control at the switch box, add the optional Modern Forms wall control to the order.
5) Is the LED light on the Aura fan replaceable, or is the whole fan scrap when it fails?
The LED luminaire is a replaceable module powered by WAC Lighting, not a sealed throwaway head. It is rated at 50,000 average hours, puts out 1600 lumens at 90 CRI with a flood distribution, dims continuously, and is field-selectable between 2700K, 3000K, 4000K and 5000K, so one unit can be matched to whatever color temperature the rest of the building runs.
6) Can the Aura FR-W2303 be controlled from Alexa or a Control4 system?
The fan is Bluetooth-enabled and works with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Control4 and Josh AI through the free Modern Forms app, which also gives breeze mode and adaptive learning. Six fan speeds are selectable from the remote or the app.
7) What finish combinations does the Aura FR-W2303 come in?
Five finish combinations, and both the 60 inch and 72 inch models are built in all five: Brushed Nickel with Matte Black blades, Brushed Nickel with Matte White, all Matte Black, Soft Brass with Matte Black, and Soft Brass with Matte White. That makes it straightforward to standardize one fan across units with different trim packages.
8) Is the Aura a DC motor fan, and does it reverse for winter?
Yes, it uses a reversible DC motor, which Modern Forms rates as up to 70 percent more efficient than a conventional AC fan motor. Reversing it pushes warm air back down in heating season. The fan is also Energy Star qualified, which matters on utility rebate and green-build paperwork.
9) Is the Modern Forms Aura ceiling fan ADA compliant?
No. The Aura FR-W2303 is not ADA compliant, so on projects where the fixture or its controls fall under an ADA scope requirement it will not satisfy the spec. It is listed UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL for Wet Location.
10) Will an 8-blade fan like the Aura wobble or click over time?
The blades are factory-balanced and sound tested as a set, which is what keeps an eight-blade assembly from wobbling, rattling or clicking. They are molded ABS rather than wood, so they do not warp with humidity, which is part of why the fan holds its Wet Location rating outdoors.
