Modern Forms FR-W2501-56L-BZ – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Modern Forms Bolo fan be installed on a covered patio or open porch?
Yes. The Bolo carries a Wet location rating and is UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL listed, so it can go on covered patios, porches and other spots exposed to rain as well as indoors. It is wired for 120V.
2) Will the Bolo ceiling fan mount on a sloped ceiling?
Slope mounting is supported up to 30 degrees. It ships as a downrod fan with a 6 inch downrod, so on a vaulted ceiling or anywhere you need more blade-to-ceiling clearance you will want a longer downrod in place of the 6 inch rod.
3) What size room does a 56 inch Bolo fan cover, and is there a bigger one?
The Bolo FR-W2501-56L runs a 56 inch blade span with 24.8 inch blades at a 13 degree pitch, moving 6,383 CFM, which suits great rooms and larger living spaces. A 62 inch version, the FR-W2501-62L, is also offered if you need more span over a wider room.
4) Does the Modern Forms Bolo fan come with a remote, or do I need a wall control?
A Bluetooth remote with a wall cradle (F-RCBT-WT) is included in the box. A hardwired wall control is not included; the optional F-WCBT-WT wall control is the accessory to add if you want a switch at the door, and it supports 3-way and 4-way setups.
5) Can I change the light color temperature on the Bolo fan after it is installed?
Yes. The LED luminaire is selectable CCT at 2700K, 3000K, 4000K and 5000K, so one fan can be set warm for a living room or cool for a patio or work area. Output runs 1,991 to 2,159 lumens at 90 CRI, it is dimmable, and the light spread is flood.
6) If the LED burns out on this fan, can the light be replaced or is the whole fan scrap?
The luminaire is a replaceable LED module rather than a sealed housing, so the light section can be swapped without pulling the fan down. It is rated 50,000 hours average life and draws 51 watts total.
7) Can the Bolo fan be run without the light, and can it reverse for winter?
The fan ships with a light cap, so you can run it as a fan only and cap the luminaire opening. The DC motor is reversible with 6 speeds, so you can flip it to updraft in heating season.
8) Does the Bolo smart fan work with Alexa or Google Assistant, and does it need a hub?
Control is Bluetooth through the Modern Forms app, with breeze mode and adaptive learning, plus voice control through Alexa, Google Assistant and SmartThings. For multi-location switching, the optional F-WCBT-WT wall control handles 3-way and 4-way arrangements.
9) What finishes does the Bolo fan come in for matching multiple units across a property?
Three finishes are offered, Bronze, Matte Black and Matte White, and each is available in both the 56 inch and 62 inch models. That lets you standardize one finish across indoor rooms and covered outdoor areas while varying the span by room size.
10) Are the Bolo fan blades metal or plastic, and will they hold up outdoors?
The three blades are ABS, factory balanced and sound tested for a wobble-free spin. ABS is the usual choice for wet-rated fans because it does not warp with humidity the way wood blades do, and the fan as a whole is Wet location listed.
11) Is the Modern Forms Bolo fan Energy Star or ADA compliant?
Neither. The Bolo is not Energy Star qualified and is not ADA compliant, which matters if you are specifying for a project with those requirements. It does use a DC motor, stated as up to 70 percent more efficient than an AC motor, at 51 watts total.
