Modern Forms WAC-FR-W2003 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Modern Forms Slim FR-W2003 ceiling fan be installed on a covered patio or an open porch?
The Slim FR-W2003 carries a Wet location rating, so it can go on a covered patio, an open porch, or anywhere exposed to direct rain, as well as indoors. Listings behind that rating are UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL. A damp-rated fan would not be acceptable in a directly exposed location, which is the main reason to pick this one for exterior work.
2) Does the Modern Forms Slim fan come with a wall control, or just a remote?
A battery-operated Bluetooth remote with a wall cradle is included (F-RCBT-WT). A hardwired wall control is not included; if you want one, the F-WCBT-WT is sold separately and supports 3-way or 4-way switch setups. On a commercial or multi-unit job where a loose remote walks off, budget the hardwired control per fan.
3) Can I run the Slim ceiling fan off a standard wall dimmer or a 3-way switch?
Don't put a DC fan on a conventional wall dimmer. Speed and light dimming are handled by the fan's own electronics, driven by the included Bluetooth remote, the Modern Forms app, or the optional F-WCBT-WT hardwired Bluetooth wall control, which is what supports 3-way and 4-way switch locations. Supply is standard 120V.
4) What light output and color temperature does the Slim FR-W2003 LED put out?
The integrated LED luminaire delivers 1100 lumens at 90 CRI with a flood distribution, drawing 33W at 120V. Color temperature is 3000K, a neutral warm white that blends with most residential and hospitality lighting. It dims smoothly and continuously through the fan's own control, and the module is rated 50,000 hours.
5) Which smart home systems does the Modern Forms Slim fan work with?
The Slim pairs with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Control4 and Josh AI, with Savant and Lutron Homeworks listed as coming. The free Modern Forms app handles speed, Breeze Mode, adaptive learning and grouping multiple fans, and Bluetooth extends range beyond the remote. If the spec on the job calls for a specific control platform, check it against that list before you commit the fixture schedule.
6) Is the Slim FR-W2003 Energy Star certified for a utility rebate or a green building spec?
Energy Star certified, and the DC motor is the reason: it is rated up to 70 percent more efficient than a conventional AC fan motor, with the light drawing just 33W. That combination is what sustainable distributors and institutional specifiers are usually looking for on a fan schedule.
7) Is the LED in the Modern Forms Slim fan replaceable, and can the light be hidden?
The LED module is replaceable rather than a sealed throwaway assembly, which matters for an MRO or property-management fleet where you expect to service rather than replace the fan. There is also an optional cover to conceal the luminaire if you want the fan read as a clean disc with no visible light source.
8) What finish and blade material does the Slim 52 inch fan come in?
One configuration: Matte White blades in ABS, a durable plastic that holds up better than wood in outdoor and humid locations where a wood blade would warp. Blade length is 22.38 inches each, three blades, in a contemporary profile.
9) Is the Modern Forms Slim ceiling fan ADA compliant?
No. The Slim FR-W2003 is not ADA compliant, so if your project schedule requires ADA-compliant fixtures in a given space, this is not the one to put there.
