WAC Lighting F-109L-MB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC Novelle 52 inch fan be installed on a covered patio or outdoor lanai?
Yes. The Novelle carries a Wet location rating, and the description states it is UL and cUL Damp Location Listed for indoor or outdoor applications. ABS blades and ABS base mean no rusting blade finish on an exposed porch. For a fully exposed install, keep the electrical box and wiring rated for the same conditions.
2) Will the Novelle smart ceiling fan mount on a sloped or vaulted ceiling?
Sloped ceilings are supported. The canopy is 7 inches in diameter and the fan body measures 11 inches in height, with 80 inches of supply wire to reach the ceiling junction box on a longer drop.
3) Does the WAC Novelle fan need a hub or bridge to work with Alexa or Google Assistant?
No hub is required. The fan pairs over Bluetooth to the WAC Smart Fan app on iOS or Android, which then connects to Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Control4, and Josh AI. The included RC20-WT battery remote with wall cradle also works on Bluetooth with no app at all, so the fan is usable the moment it is wired.
4) Is a wall control included with the Novelle, or do I have to order one?
What ships with the fan is the battery operated Bluetooth remote and its wall cradle, part RC20-WT. If the job calls for a hardwired wall control at the switch box, that is the WC20-WT and it is a separate order. Because both controls use Bluetooth, one can run an unlimited number of fans within range, which is useful on multi-unit or hospitality installs.
5) Does the WAC Novelle fan meet California Title 24 for a residential project?
Yes. It is listed as both Title 20 and Title 24 compliant, and ADA compliant. It is not Energy Star rated. The DC motor is the reason the efficiency numbers work, up to 70 percent more efficient than a traditional AC fan per WAC.
6) What color temperature does the Novelle LED put out, and can I change it?
The integrated LED module is field selectable across 2700K, 3000K, 4000K, and 5000K, so one fan can be set warm for a bedroom or neutral for a covered commercial entry. Output runs 1497 to 1606 lumens at 36 watts, 90 CRI, with smooth continuous dimming and a matte white acrylic diffuser.
7) If the LED fails, do I have to replace the whole Novelle fan?
No. The light kit is a replaceable LED module rather than a sealed assembly, rated at 50,000 average hours. There is no screw-base lamp, so there is no bulb to stock; the module is the serviceable part.
8) Can the Novelle run in reverse for winter, and how many speeds does it have?
The motor is reversible, so you can push air up in heating season. Six speeds on the DC motor, controlled from the remote or the app, which also adds breeze mode and adaptive learning. Note the blades themselves are not reversible, so there is no second blade color.
9) What voltage does the WAC Novelle smart fan run on?
Standard 120V line voltage, drawing 36 watts at the LED. It wires into a normal fan-rated ceiling box, and because speed and dimming are handled over Bluetooth, no dimmer or fan speed control is needed in the wall.
10) What finishes does the Novelle 52 inch fan come in for matching several rooms?
Two finishes, Matte Black and Matte White. Both carry the same matte white acrylic diffuser, so a mixed-finish building still reads consistently when the lights are on.
