WAC Lighting F-089-BN/EB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC Malibu 70 inch ceiling fan be installed outdoors on a covered patio or an exposed pergola?
Yes. The Malibu is rated for Wet locations and listed for indoor or outdoor use, so it can go on an open deck, a pergola, or anywhere it may take direct rain, not just a covered porch. The balsa wood blades are carved, and the housing is aluminum.
2) What electrical rough-in does the WAC Malibu smart fan need?
Standard 120V line voltage, drawing 37W. The fan ships with 80 inches of lead wire from the motor, which is what lets you run longer downrods on a high or sloped ceiling without splicing outside the canopy. It uses a DC motor, so it needs a fan-rated box and a live feed, not a wall dimmer circuit.
3) Does the WAC Malibu meet California Title 24 and Title 20 for a new build?
Yes on both. The Malibu is Title 24 compliant and Title 20 listed, Energy Star qualified, and ADA compliant. It carries cUL/UL certification. That combination is what a spec writer on a California multi-family or hospitality job typically has to document.
4) Does the Malibu fan come with a remote, or do I have to order a control separately?
A remote is included in the box, and a canopy cap is included as well for installations where no downrod extension is used. The fan runs 6 speeds and the motor is reversible for winter updraft.
5) Can I add a light kit to the Malibu fan later?
No. The Malibu is not light kit adaptable and no separate light kit is offered for it, so if the room needs downlight from the fan location you should plan separate fixtures or choose a different model. Reversing the blades for a second look is not an option either, since the carved balsa blades are single finish.
6) What finish combinations does the 70 inch Malibu fan come in?
Two: Brushed Nickel with Ebony blades (F-089-BN/EB) and Matte Black with Dark Walnut blades (F-089-MB/DW). The base model number is F-089, so if you are matching existing units in a building, check the suffix on the old motor housing label.
