Metallics JSWN02D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Why use a nylon flat washer instead of a steel one on electrical work?
Nylon is non-conductive and won't corrode, so these washers are used where you need to isolate a fastener from a metal enclosure, panel or strut, or keep dissimilar metals from reacting. A steel or zinc washer carries current and grounds whatever it touches. The trade-off is clamp load: nylon will cold-flow under heavy torque, so it is for insulating and load-spreading duty, not high-tension structural connections.
2) How are the Metallics JSWN02D washers packaged for shop stock?
They come as a jar of 100. The jar pack is what MRO and electrical shops keep on a shelf or in a service van, since you can pull a handful without a bag tearing open in the bin.
3) Can these nylon washers be used as a spacer or shim under a device screw?
Yes. A flat nylon washer spreads load and takes up gap, so it works under screw heads on plastic or sheet-metal faces where a steel washer would bite in or scratch the finish. Bore is 1/4 inch, so it suits 1/4 inch fasteners only.
