Metallics JW122SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size bolt does the Metallics JW122SS fender washer fit?
The JW122SS is a 1/4 inch fender washer, so it takes a 1/4-20 bolt or screw shank. The 2 inch outside diameter spreads the load across a much wider footprint than a standard 1/4 inch flat washer, which is why it gets used on sheet metal, fiberglass panels, drywall, and soft wood where a small washer would pull through.
2) Are these Metallics 1/4 x 2 fender washers stainless steel or plated?
Stainless steel, not zinc-plated carbon steel. That matters for outdoor strut runs, rooftop equipment, wet locations, and coastal jobs where a plated washer rusts and streaks the panel it sits on. Pair them with stainless bolts and nuts so you are not mixing metals at the joint.
3) How many washers come in a jar of Metallics JW122SS?
100 washers per jar, packed in a jar rather than a bag or box, so it stays closed on a cart or in a van bin. The full jar weighs 5.66 lbs. Buying by the jar is the usual move for MRO stockrooms and electrical contractors who burn through fender washers on strut, hanger, and panel work.
4) Can I use these stainless fender washers outdoors on rooftop or exterior equipment?
Stainless construction makes them suitable for exterior and damp locations, including rooftop condenser stands, exterior panel mounting, and fence or sign work. Keep the fastener stainless too; a stainless washer under a zinc bolt just moves the corrosion to the bolt head.
5) What is the difference between a fender washer and a regular flat washer in 1/4 inch?
Same 1/4 inch bore, very different outside diameter. A standard 1/4 inch flat washer runs around 5/8 to 3/4 inch across; this one is 2 inches. Use the standard washer when you only need to protect the surface under a nut or spread load on steel. Go to the 2 inch fender washer when the base material is soft or thin, or when the hole is bigger than the fastener, which is the normal case on sheet metal enclosures, roof decking, and composite panels.
6) Are these washers made in the USA?
Country of origin on the JW122SS is listed as multiple, meaning Metallics sources them from more than one country. If a job carries a domestic-origin or Buy American requirement, that requirement will not be satisfied by specifying this item on origin alone.
