1) What size and thread does the Watts LF288A 3/4 vacuum breaker connect to?
Both ends are 3/4 inch female NPT threads (20 mm metric). So it threads onto 3/4 inch male NPT pipe or nipples on the inlet and the outlet. There is no union, elbow, or hydrant connection built in, so plan your nipples and fittings accordingly.
2) Can I leave a Watts LF288A anti-siphon vacuum breaker under constant pressure?
No. The LF288A is rated for non-continuous pressure only, which is what atmospheric-type anti-siphon vacuum breakers are. It has to be installed downstream of the last shutoff valve and cannot sit under pressure for more than about 12 hours at a stretch. If the line stays pressurized, you need a continuous-pressure device such as a pressure vacuum breaker or an RPZ instead.
3) Will a Watts LF288A protect against backpressure, or only backsiphonage?
Backsiphonage only. The LF288A is built for negative-pressure (siphon) conditions and is rated for health hazard level protection in that application. If the cross-connection can push water back up the line under pressure, from a pump or an elevated tank, this device will not cover it and you need a reduced pressure zone assembly.
4) Is the Watts LF288A lead free for potable water?
Yes. The body is lead free brass with a natural brass finish, and the LF288A carries the lead free designation, which is what puts it on potable water lines. The internal disc and seat are silicone.
5) What pressure and temperature can the Watts LF288A 3/4 handle?
Up to 125 psi (8.6 bar) working pressure, with a fluid temperature range of 33 F to 180 F (0.5 C minimum). That 180 F ceiling covers normal domestic hot water, but the LF288A is not the hot and harsh water version, so keep it off high-temperature or aggressive water service.
6) Does the Watts LF288A come with shutoff valves or a strainer?
No shutoff valves on either the inlet or the outlet, no strainer, no bypass, and no test cocks or meter. It is a bare anti-siphon vacuum breaker body, so if your install needs isolation or upstream straining, order those separately.
7) Does the Watts LF288A qualify for a Buy American federal job?
