1) Can I use this anti-siphon vacuum breaker on a line that stays under constant pressure?
No. The LF288A is rated for non-continuous pressure only, which is how an atmospheric anti-siphon vacuum breaker works: it must be downstream of the last shutoff so the pressure drops off when the outlet is closed. If the valve will sit under standing line pressure all the time, you need a pressure-type vacuum breaker or an RPZ assembly instead.
2) What kind of backflow does this Watts LF288A actually protect against?
Backsiphonage only, and it is rated for health hazard level protection. That means it stops contaminated water being pulled back into the potable supply when supply pressure drops. It does not protect against backpressure, so on any installation where downstream pressure can exceed supply pressure (booster pumps, elevated tanks, chemical injection) this is the wrong device.

Yes. The body is lead free brass with a brass finish, and the valve is flagged lead free, so it is suitable for potable water lines where lead free construction is required. The internal disc and seat are silicone.

Up to 125 psi (8.6 bar) working pressure and 180 F maximum, with a minimum of 33 F (0.5 C). The 180 F ceiling covers normal domestic hot water service, but it is not built for hot and harsh water duty, so keep it off high temperature process or steam condensate lines. The 33 F minimum also means it is not a freeze rated device: protect it or remove it seasonally on outdoor lines.
