Both ends are 1/2 inch female NPT, so it threads straight onto 1/2 inch male NPT nipples or adapters on the inlet and outlet. Inlet and outlet are the same size, so there is no reducing or bushing built in. The inlet side is a union connection, which means you can break the valve loose at the union and pull it for service without cutting pipe or unthreading the whole run.

It is a lead free valve with a lead free copper silicon alloy body, which is the alloy Watts uses for potable water service. Trim and the strainer are stainless steel and the seat disc is EPDM, so nothing in the wetted path is a leaded brass. It is also marked Buy American Act compliant with USA origin, which matters if you are buying for a government, school, or federally funded job.

The LFU5B-Z3 has a built in thermal expansion bypass. On a closed system with a water heater, a standard PRV traps expanding hot water downstream and the pressure climbs until the T and P relief weeps. The bypass in this valve lets that expanded volume push back upstream instead of building against a closed seat. Whether you also need an expansion tank is a call your local inspector makes based on the system, but the bypass is what separates this model from a plain reducing valve.

A stainless steel strainer is built into the valve, so you do not need a separate Y strainer upstream just to protect the seat. On a well system or an older galvanized line where you are chasing scale and grit, that integral screen is the part that keeps debris off the disc and stops the outlet pressure from creeping.

Maximum operating temperature is 160 degrees F, with a minimum of 33 degrees F (0.5 C). That covers domestic hot water at normal storage temperatures and cold water service. It is not a valve for boiler loop or high temperature hydronic water above 160 F, and the 33 F low end means it needs to stay out of a line that can freeze.

Maximum working pressure is 300 psi (20.7 bar), so high municipal supply pressure or a booster discharge well above typical street pressure is within the valve's rating. Outlet is what you set, anywhere from 25 to 75 psi.

No gauge is supplied with the LFU5B-Z3. Since it ships preset at 50 psi and adjusts across 25 to 75 psi, you will want a gauge somewhere downstream to verify where you have actually set it. Plan on a hose bibb test gauge or a tapped gauge in the outlet piping if you need to dial in a specific number rather than accept the factory setting.

There is one configuration to order: model LFU5B-Z3 1/2, the 1/2 inch NPT female union by NPT female version with the 25 to 75 psi range. No finish, handing, or trim choice to make. If you need a different pipe size or a solder or press connection instead of threaded, that is a different Watts model number, not an option on this one.

The body is a lead free copper silicon alloy with a corrosion resistant coating, and the internal trim and strainer are stainless steel.
