Weslock 07635-1--0020 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Weslock 7635 Stonebriar dummy handleset latch or lock at all?
No. The 7635 Stonebriar is a dummy handleset, non-keyed, with no latch and no working mechanism. It is surface-mounted trim only, meant for the inactive leaf of a double door or a door held shut by a ball catch or roller catch. If you need the door to latch or lock, you need an entrance or keyed handleset instead.
2) Will the Weslock 7635 Stonebriar handleset fit a 2-inch thick door?
Yes. The standard configuration adjusts to door thickness from 1-3/4 inches to 2 inches. For thicker slabs there is a second door thickness option covering 2 inches to 2-1/4 inches, which you pick when ordering. Below 1-3/4 inches it is out of range, so a typical 1-3/8 inch interior door is not a fit.
3) What door prep does the Weslock Stonebriar handleset need?
It goes on a door bored with 2-1/8 inch top and bottom cross holes (the top hole can optionally be 1-5/8 inch) and a 1 inch edge bore, with a minimum 5-1/2 inch center-to-center spacing between the two cross holes. If your existing handleset prep is spaced tighter than 5-1/2 inches, the plate will not line up.
4) What is the closest dummy handleset equivalent to the Weslock 7635 Stonebriar from another brand?
The Schlage Residential F92 Custom Addison is the closest cross-brand match: it is also a dummy-function exterior handleset, so like the Weslock 7635 Stonebriar it is a non-keyed pull with no latch or bolt operation. The differences are fit and rating. The F92 Addison is Grade 2 certified and covers doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick, while the Weslock 7635 Stonebriar is set up for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch as standard. If your door is under 1-3/4 inch, the Addison is the one that fits; at 1-3/4 inch and above, the Weslock is.
5) I need a handleset that actually locks, not a dummy - what should I order instead of the Weslock 7635 Stonebriar?
The Weslock 7635 Stonebriar is a dummy, non-keyed handleset, so it will not lock or latch anything. For a locking opening, the Schlage Residential F58 Addison is an entrance-function handleset with a C keyway and Grade 2 certification for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, and the Schlage Residential FCT58 Custom Addison is a keyed entry single cylinder handleset, also Grade 2, for doors 1-5/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch. On a thicker door, the FCT58 is the one whose range reaches 2-1/4 inch.
6) I only need the outside trim. Is the Weslock 7635 the exterior half only?
Right. The 7635 Stonebriar is the exterior handle only, paired with a Wexford knob. There is no interior trim or working latch in the package, so if you are dressing both faces of the door you will need a separate interior piece.
7) Is the Weslock 7635 handleset rated for commercial use?
It is a residential product. The description states it exceeds ANSI A156.2 Grade 2 lock standards, but Weslock catalogs the Molten Bronze line for residential openings, so for a high-traffic commercial entrance you would be better served by commercial-grade hardware.
8) Do I have to choose anything when ordering the Weslock 7635 Stonebriar?
Two things. Door thickness is a required selection: standard 1-3/4 to 2 inches, or the 2 to 2-1/4 inch version. Finish comes in Oil Rubbed Bronze. Measure the slab edge before you pick, because the two thickness builds are not interchangeable after the fact.
9) Is the Schlage JH58 Barcelona handleset a substitute for the Weslock 7635 Stonebriar?
They are not interchangeable. The Schlage Residential JH58 with Barcelona trim is a single cylinder keyed entry handleset rated Grade 3 for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. The Weslock 7635 Stonebriar is a dummy handleset with no keyed function, made for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors. Buyers often pair the two on a double-door opening - a keyed set on the active leaf and a dummy on the inactive leaf - but the JH58 will not drop into a prep set up for the Weslock dummy, and the trim styling is different.
10) For a residential rental unit, how does the Weslock 7635 Stonebriar compare on grade to the Schlage Addison handlesets?
The Weslock 7635 Stonebriar is a residential handleset in solid brass that exceeds ANSI A156.2 Grade 2 lock standards. The Schlage Residential F92 Custom Addison dummy and the F58 Addison entrance handleset are both Grade 2 certified as well, so all three sit at the same certification tier. The separating factors for a rental fleet are function and door thickness rather than grade: the 7635 Stonebriar is dummy only and fits 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, while the F58 Addison is an entrance set for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors.
11) Is the Weslock Stonebriar handleset solid brass or plated pot metal?
Solid molten brass. It is part of Weslock's Molten Bronze Series, and the substrate is brass rather than a cast zinc body with a brass-look plating. The one finish offered is Oil Rubbed Bronze.
12) Will the installation screws show on the Weslock Stonebriar plate?
No. The Molten Bronze handlesets use concealed installation screws, so the exterior face of the Stonebriar plate reads clean. The knob is also removable during install to keep from scratching the finish while you set the plate.
