1) Will the Weslock 3772 Woodward deadbolt fit my existing door prep?
The 3772 Woodward drops into a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore and works at either a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset, which covers both of the common residential bore layouts. The latch faceplate measures 1 x 2-1/4 inch, so if the old deadbolt used the same faceplate size the edge mortise carries over. Trim covers 2-3/4 x 3-7/8 inches on the door face, with 7/8 inch of projection outside and 1-3/4 inches inside.
2) What does a double cylinder deadbolt mean, and should I put one on my door?
Double cylinder means the 3772 Woodward takes a key on both sides, inside and out. There is no thumbturn. That is the reason people specify it on doors with glass next to the lock or a glass panel in the door, since breaking the glass and reaching through gets you nothing without a key. The tradeoff is egress: nobody leaves through that door without a key in hand, so it is the wrong choice for a bedroom or a primary exit where somebody might need to get out fast.
