Wiremold 2986 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Wiremold 2986 drop ceiling connector actually do on a raceway run?
The Wiremold 2986 is a raceway fitting that makes the transition where a surface raceway run enters a suspended (drop) ceiling. It is the connector piece, not the raceway itself, so you order it in addition to the raceway lengths and any elbows or boxes the run needs.
2) How big is the Wiremold 2986 ceiling connector, and will it clear a standard ceiling grid?
It measures 2.875 inches long by 2.0 inches wide, a small enough footprint to sit within a standard suspended ceiling grid opening without fouling the tee bars. Weight is 0.052 lb, so it adds essentially nothing to the grid load.
3) What color and material is the Wiremold 2986, and will it match existing ivory raceway?
Ivory plastic. It matches ivory Wiremold non-metallic raceway and fittings, which is the common choice in offices and classrooms where the run is visible. If the existing raceway on the job is white or metallic, the ivory fitting will read as a different piece.
4) Is the Wiremold 2986 connector made in the USA?
Country of origin is the United States, which matters on government and institutional work carrying domestic-content requirements on the bid.
5) Where do property managers and facility crews typically use a drop ceiling connector like this?
Commercial offices, retail spaces, schools, healthcare and government buildings, and conference rooms, anywhere surface raceway drops power or data out of a suspended ceiling to a wall or workstation. It is a maintenance-stock item for firms standardizing ivory raceway across tenant spaces.
6) Is there more than one finish option for the Wiremold 2986?
Ivory is the only finish offered on the 2986. For a white or metallic run you would need the corresponding fitting in that finish rather than this part number.
