2) Will the AS34 auger bit chuck into an impact driver?
Yes. The AS34 has a hex shank rather than a round shank, so it seats in a 1/4 inch hex quick-change impact driver collet as well as a standard three-jaw drill chuck. That hex also keeps the bit from spinning in the chuck when the auger bites hard in framing lumber.
3) What is the difference between a ship auger and a standard wood auger bit?
A ship auger like the AS34 has a single cutting spur and a long open flute with no screw-point lead at the tip, which lets it chew through nail-embedded and wet framing without the spur snapping off and makes it easier to back out mid-hole. A standard wood auger has an aggressive screw point that self-feeds fast in clean lumber but stalls a drill and grabs in old studs. Electricians doing rough-in and remodel drilling generally run ship augers for that reason.
