Accentra 112 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Accentra 112 auxiliary deadbolt fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes. The 112 auxiliary deadbolt covers door thicknesses from 1-3/8 inches up to 2-1/4 inches, so a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door sits in the middle of the range. That range also takes in the thinner 1-3/8 inch doors common in older interior openings and the thick doors you find on entrances, so one part number covers most of a building without sorting by leaf thickness.
2) Angle strike or flat strike on the Accentra 112 deadbolt, which one do I order?
It depends on which way the door swings. The 112 comes with an angled strike as standard, which is what you want on an inswinging door where the strike mounts in the frame rebate. For an outswinging door, order the flat strike version, model 112F. Both strike types are orderable choices on the 112, so pick the one that matches the opening before you order, since the strike is what gets mortised into the frame.
3) Do I have to order a left hand or right hand version of the Accentra 112 deadbolt?
No handing to specify. The 112 auxiliary deadbolt is non-handed, so the same unit works on a left or right hand door. The only ordering decision tied to the opening is the strike: angled for inswing, flat (112F) for outswing.
4) What door prep does the Accentra 112 auxiliary deadbolt need, and will it drop into an existing deadbolt hole?
The 112 is bored for a 2-3/8 inch backset, measured from the door edge to the center of the bore. That is one of the two standard backsets used on bored locks, the other being 2-3/4 inch, so if the existing hole in your door is at 2-3/4 inch it will not line up and you would be re-boring. Check the backset on the door you are replacing before ordering. Frame side, the deadbolt throws 1-1/8 inches into the strike, which means the strike pocket has to be routed deep enough to take the full bolt.
5) Is the Accentra 112 deadbolt keyed on both sides or is there a thumbturn inside?
Single cylinder. Key operates the bolt from the outside through a 5-pin rim cylinder, and inside there is a thumbturn that throws or retracts the bolt with a 180 degree turn. That matters for egress: nobody needs a key to get out, which is why single cylinder is the usual choice on occupied units and offices. If your situation calls for key operation from both sides, this is not that product.
6) Can I key the Accentra 112 auxiliary deadbolt to match the other locks in my building?
The 112 ships with a 5-pin rim cylinder, model 1109E, and two keys. Because it is a rim cylinder rather than a mortise cylinder, keying it into an existing system means your keyway and pinning have to work with a rim housing. A locksmith can rekey the furnished 1109E to your system, but the cylinder format is the constraint to check first if the rest of the building runs mortise cylinders.
7) What is an auxiliary deadbolt and do I still need a lockset on the door?
An auxiliary deadbolt like the 112 is a second, separate lock that adds a bolt to the door. It has no latch and no handle, so it does not hold the door closed and does not let anyone through the opening. You install it above or below the existing knob or lever set, which still does the latching and the day-to-day operation. If you want one device that both latches and deadbolts, that is a deadlatch or an interconnected lock, not this.
8) Is a 1-1/8 inch deadbolt throw enough to secure a door with a gap at the frame?
The 112 throws 1-1/8 inches. That is a long throw for a bored deadbolt and it gives you real engagement into the frame even where the door has settled and the gap has opened up a little. The practical limit is the strike: the pocket behind it must be routed to take the full 1-1/8 inches, or the bolt bottoms out and never fully extends. On a frame with a shallow existing cutout, plan to deepen it.
9) How many keys come with the Accentra 112 deadbolt?
Two keys ship with each 112 auxiliary deadbolt, cut to the furnished 5-pin rim cylinder. If you are securing a unit where a tenant, a super and a service contractor all need access, plan on having extra keys cut or the cylinder rekeyed into a master system.
