Yale Residential YR81KCB-605 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Yale YH Collection Kincaid dummy lever actually latch, or is it just a pull?
It is a single dummy, so there is no latch and no lock. The lever is fixed and surface mounted to the face of the door, used as a push/pull on closet doors, French doors, and other interior openings that stay shut with a ball catch or roller catch you supply separately. If you need the door to latch, you need a passage or privacy lever instead.
2) Do I have to bore the door for a Yale Kincaid single dummy lever?
No boring is needed for the dummy itself. It mounts to the door surface with two screws. The 2-1/8 inch cross bore and 1 inch edge bore figures published for the Kincaid line apply to the functional (latching) versions of the lever, so if you are replacing a dummy on a door that is already bored 2-1/8 inch, the rose will cover that prep.
3) Will the Kincaid lever work on a 1-3/8 inch interior door?
Yes. The Kincaid lever is rated for doors from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches, which covers both standard interior slabs and heavier 1-3/4 inch doors.
4) Is the Kincaid dummy lever handed - do I need to order left or right?
No handing to specify. The YH Collection levers are non-handed, so one part covers either side of the opening. For a double door where you want a dummy on each leaf, order two.
5) What finishes does the Yale Kincaid dummy lever come in, and will it match my other Yale levers?
Three finishes: 10BP Oil Rubbed Bronze Permanent, 605 Polished Brass, and 619 Satin Nickel. Those are standard BHMA finish codes, so a 619 Kincaid dummy matches 619 passage, privacy, and entry levers elsewhere in the YH Collection on the same floor. The BK version carries a black insert in the rose.
6) Is a residential dummy lever strong enough for a light commercial job like an office or a hotel corridor closet?
The Kincaid is catalogued as residential but built to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 2, which the description states it exceeds. Grade 2 is the usual bar for light commercial work, so it holds up on office and hospitality interior doors. For heavy-traffic openings in a school or hospital you would step up to a Grade 1 cylindrical lever.
7) Can the Kincaid dummy lever be keyed or keyed alike with the rest of my hardware?
No. It is a non-keyed dummy with no cylinder at all, so it cannot be part of a keyed-alike set. Keying on the YH Collection happens on the entry and keyed-function levers, not on dummies.
8) What does the rose on the Kincaid lever look like, and how much room does it need on the door face?
The Kincaid uses a flat round rose with a black insert on the BK version, in a sculptured style shared across the YH Collection. Since the dummy mounts on the surface rather than through a bore, the only requirement is enough flat face on the stile to seat the round rose.
