1) Will the Yale Kincaid entry lever fit a standard 1-3/8 inch interior door, or does it need a 1-3/4 inch door?
The Kincaid entry lever covers both. It's rated for door thickness from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches, so it works on older 1-3/8 inch interior doors and on standard 1-3/4 inch doors without any spacer or extension kit.
2) Can I drop this Yale lever into the existing holes from the old knob I'm replacing?
If the door is already bored to standard residential prep, yes. The Kincaid takes a 2-1/8 inch cross bore through the face and a 1 inch edge bore for the latch, which is the same prep almost every bored knob or lever uses. Measure the existing holes first; anything smaller than 2-1/8 inches needs to be re-bored.
3) Do I need to order a left-hand or right-hand version of the Kincaid lever?
No handing to specify. The YH Collection levers are non-handed, so the same set works on a left or right swinging door and you reorient the lever during install.
4) I'm doing several units and want one key to open all the doors. Can I order these keyed alike?
Yes. Keying is a selectable option on the Kincaid entry lever: KD keyed different if every door should carry its own key, or KA keyed alike so one key operates the whole group. For multi-family or a rental turn, KA across the entry doors in a unit is the usual call. Each set ships with two keys.
5) Is the Yale Kincaid lever strong enough for a light commercial door, or is it residential only?
It's built and catalogued as residential, but it exceeds ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 2. Yale describes the YH Collection as light commercial quality, which suits an office, a small retail back door, or apartment entries. For a high traffic institutional opening you want a Grade 1 cylindrical lock instead.
6) What does single cylinder entry mean on this Yale lever, and can I lock it from inside without a key?
Single cylinder means one keyed cylinder, on the exterior lever only. The inside lever has a turn button or thumbturn rather than a second keyway, so you lock and unlock from inside without a key. It's a keyed entrance function, not a passage or privacy set.
7) What comes in the box with the Yale Kincaid entry lever set, and do I need to buy a latch or strike separately?
Everything for the opening is included: two levers, two roses, interior and exterior chassis, the latch, a strike plate, four screws, and two keys. No separate latch or strike purchase. If your frame has a full lip strike or a security box strike you want to keep, you can leave the supplied plate out.
8) What finishes does the Kincaid black insert lever come in, and will it match my existing hardware?
Three finishes: 10BP Oil Rubbed Bronze Permanent, 605 Polished Brass, and 619 Satin Nickel. All three carry the black insert accent on the lever. If you're matching other openings in a building, 619 satin nickel is the most common contemporary match and 10BP the darker traditional one.
9) Should I use a keyed entry lever or a privacy lever on a bedroom or bathroom door?
For a bedroom or bath, a privacy set is normally the right call: it locks from inside with a thumbturn and releases from outside with an emergency tool, no key to lose. The Kincaid is a keyed entrance function with an exterior cylinder, which is what you want on a unit entry, a home office, a storage room, or any door where you control access with a key.
10) Will the mounting screws show on the face of the door after install?
No. The Kincaid uses concealed mounting screws behind the rose, so the finished side shows a clean flat round rose with no visible fasteners. The screws come pre-installed and the square spindle assembly means the set goes together with a single tool.
11) Can this Yale lever be re-keyed later to my existing key system?
The YH Collection cylinder is built for easy re-keying, so a locksmith can pin it to an existing residential system rather than you living with the factory key. Order KD if each door gets its own key, KA if the group shares one.
