1) Will the Metallics SCE0125 clamp work with rigid conduit or only EMT?
It is specified as an EMT strut clamp. EMT has a thinner wall and a smaller outside diameter than rigid or IMC of the same trade size, so a 1-1/4 EMT clamp will not close correctly on 1-1/4 rigid. For rigid or IMC, order the rigid-conduit version of the strut clamp in that trade size.
2) What does the EG in Metallics SCE0125 mean, and is it OK outdoors?
EG stands for electro-galvanized, a zinc plating applied over steel. It is a light coating suited to dry indoor and protected areas. For wet locations, rooftops, parking structures, or corrosive environments, use a hot-dip galvanized or stainless strut clamp instead.
3) Do I need anything else to mount a strut clamp to channel?
A strut clamp attaches to the channel lip with a nut and bolt through the clamp. Plan on a strut nut (spring or plain) and the matching bolt for each clamp unless you already have them on the job. The clamp itself is just the conduit-holding piece; the strut, nut, and hardware are separate line items.
4) Can I use a strut clamp instead of a one-hole strap for 1-1/4 EMT?
They solve different problems. A one-hole or two-hole strap fastens conduit flat to a wall, deck, or structure. The SCE0125 is for runs supported on strut channel, where the clamp bolts to the channel and holds the 1-1/4 EMT off the surface. If you are racking multiple parallel runs on trapeze or wall-mounted strut, the strut clamp is the right part; for a single run pinned directly to masonry or drywall framing, use a strap.
