It is a strut clamp, built to fasten 1 inch EMT to strut channel rather than to a flat surface. The clamp seats on the channel lips, so you need the run of strut already in place; for conduit going straight to drywall, block or deck you want a one-hole or two-hole conduit strap instead.
2) What does the EG finish on the Metallics SCE0100 mean, and can I use it outdoors?
EG is electrogalvanized, a thin zinc plating intended for dry indoor use. It is fine for interior mechanical rooms, ceilings and finished spaces. For exterior runs, parking structures, wash-down areas or anywhere with regular moisture, step up to a hot-dip galvanized or stainless strut clamp instead of the EG version.
3) Do I need a channel nut and bolt with the SCE0100, or is the hardware included?
Order by the clamp body only, model SCE0100. Plan on the strut channel itself and any channel nuts or bolts your mounting method calls for as separate line items when you are laying out a conduit rack.
4) I am standardizing conduit supports across a building. Is the SCE0100 a single part number or does it come in multiple sizes?
SCE0100 is one part number covering 1 inch EMT only. For a mixed run you will carry a separate strut clamp part number for each trade size, so build your takeoff by conduit size rather than expecting one clamp to cover the job.
