Metallics JFMP69 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do these Metallics machine screws meet Buy American or ARRA requirements for a government job?
No. The JFMP69 flat head machine screws are not Buy American compliant and not ARRA compliant, with multiple countries of origin. If your project carries domestic-sourcing language, these will not satisfy it.
2) What size Phillips driver do I need for these Metallics 10-32 flat head screws?
A #2 Phillips bit. The recess is 0.198 in. diameter, 0.124 in. deep with a 0.032 in. slot width, which is what a #2 tip is sized for. Using a #1 will cam out and a #3 will not seat.
3) How many Metallics JFMP69 screws come in a jar and can I buy just a few?
They ship in a jar of 100, and 100 is the order minimum, so the smallest purchase is one full jar rather than loose pieces.
4) Are zinc plated steel machine screws suitable for outdoor or damp locations?
These are AISI 1006-1022 carbon steel with a zinc finish. Zinc plating handles indoor and dry locations well, which covers most panel, box and device work. For wet, coastal or washdown environments, or where dissimilar metal contact is a concern, specify a stainless 10-32 flat head Phillips screw instead.
5) How much load will a 10-32 zinc machine screw hold?
Rated at 1200 lb minimum tensile, with a hardness of Rockwell B70 to B100. That is ample for mounting devices, plates, brackets and fixture hardware. Note the limit on these joints is usually the tapped material or the sheet metal, not the screw.
6) Are machine screws like these the right fastener for wood or drywall?
No. A 10-32 machine screw has a uniform straight thread meant for a tapped hole or a nut, not for cutting its own thread in wood, drywall or plastic. Use a wood screw, drywall screw or self-tapping sheet metal screw for those. Reach for the JFMP69 when there is already a 10-32 tapped hole, a nut, or a threaded insert on the other side.
7) What dimensional spec do these flat head machine screws conform to?
Head and recess geometry follows ASME B18.6.3-1998 and the thread follows ANSI/ASME B1.1. Gaging diameter is 0.313 with protrusion 0.025 to 0.042 above gage, which matters if your submittal calls out a standards-conforming flat head.
8) What trades actually use the Metallics FM/FMP machine screws?
Metallics lists the FM and FMP series for electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning work. In practice that means panel and enclosure hardware, device and cover plate mounting, strut and bracket assembly, and equipment fastening where a tapped 10-32 hole is involved. The zinc yellow version of these screws is also common in electronics assembly.
