The JPMP1032 has a 1 inch shank length, which is longer than the 1/2 inch screws that ship with most devices. That extra length is what you want when you are picking up an extension ring, a plaster ring, or stacking through a thick cover or spacer. If you are threading into a shallow tapped ear with no clearance behind it, the screw will bottom out or protrude, so for a flush device mount with no added material a shorter machine screw is the right call.
