Metallics MWRC14 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size wire rope does the Metallics MWRC14 clip fit?
The MWRC14 is a 1/4 inch wire rope clip, so it is sized for 1/4 inch diameter cable or aircraft-type wire rope. Using a clip on a rope larger or smaller than its rated size is what causes slip at the saddle, so match the clip size to the rope size exactly rather than to the next size up.
2) How many wire rope clips do I need per termination on 1/4 inch cable?
Clips like the MWRC14 are always installed in multiples, never one per termination. For 1/4 inch rope the accepted practice is two clips minimum, spaced about six rope diameters apart, with the saddle on the live (load-bearing) side of the rope and the U-bolt on the dead end. Order quantities in pairs per termination point.
3) Is the Metallics 1/4 inch wire rope clip galvanized for damp or outdoor use?
Yes, the MWRC14 is a galvanized clip, which is the standard finish for cable rigging exposed to humidity, unheated spaces, or outdoor runs. For continuously wet or corrosive environments, stainless hardware is the usual step up.
4) Can I use a wire rope clip to hang electrical conduit or fixtures from aircraft cable?
The MWRC14 is electrical trade hardware for forming a loop or dead-end in 1/4 inch cable, which is how suspended fixture, tray, and conduit support runs get terminated. It is a cable terminating clip, not a hanger itself, so you still need the appropriate hook, eye bolt, or beam attachment at the structure and a support clamp at the load.
