ASC Engineered Solutions 311017404 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use this galvanized malleable iron elbow on a fire sprinkler line?
It is UL/FM listed, which is the approval fire protection inspectors look for on threaded fittings in sprinkler piping. It is standard weight malleable iron to ASTM A-197 with dimensions and pressure rating to ASME B16.3, and hot dip galvanized per ASTM A-153, which is the usual call-out for wet and dry system piping.
2) Will a galvanized malleable iron street elbow hold up on outdoor or damp piping?
The fitting is hot dip galvanized to ASTM A-153, the coating spec for corrosion protection on threaded iron fittings, so it is suited to exposed, damp, or unheated runs and matches galvanized steel pipe. For potable water, confirm your local code still permits galvanized.
