1) What size pipe does the Viega MegaPressG 26011 reducer connect?
The MegaPressG 26011 is a 1 inch by 3/4 inch reducer in carbon steel. The connection is FTG x P: one end is a fitting (street) end that slips into a 1 inch press fitting socket, the other is a press end that accepts 3/4 inch carbon steel pipe. So it steps a run down from 1 inch to 3/4 inch without needing a separate coupling on the large side.
2) Is the Viega 26011 MegaPressG reducer rated for gas piping?
MegaPressG is Viega's gas line series, and the 26011 is a carbon steel MegaPressG reducer with Smart Connect technology. Smart Connect is the feature that leaks deliberately at an unpressed connection during pressure testing so an installer can find a joint they missed before the system goes into service. Use MegaPressG fittings with MegaPressG sealing elements on gas; do not mix them with standard MegaPress water fittings.
3) Can I use the Viega 26011 carbon steel reducer on copper or stainless pipe?
No. The 26011 is a carbon steel MegaPressG fitting and belongs on black iron or carbon steel pipe. Putting a carbon steel press fitting on copper mixes dissimilar metals and the press geometry is not the same system. For copper you want Viega's copper press line, and for stainless you want the stainless MegaPress range.
4) What does FTG x P mean on a Viega MegaPress reducer, and how is it different from a P x P fitting?
FTG means fitting end, or street end. That side is sized to slide directly into the press socket of another 1 inch fitting, so you do not burn a coupling or a stub of pipe to make the transition. The P end is a standard press socket that takes 3/4 inch pipe. A P x P reducer, by contrast, needs pipe on both ends. If you are reducing right at another fitting, the 26011's FTG side is what you want; if you are reducing mid-run between two lengths of pipe, you want a socket-by-socket reducer instead.
5) Do I need to thread or weld anything to install the Viega MegaPressG 26011?
No threading, no welding, no flame. MegaPressG joints are made cold with a press tool and the correct jaw or ring for the size, so a 3/4 inch press end needs a 3/4 inch jaw. Cut the pipe square, deburr it, mark the insertion depth, seat the pipe fully in the press socket and press once. No hot work permit and no pipe dope.
