Viega 26055 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Viega 26055 MegaPress elbow work on black iron / carbon steel pipe?
Yes. The 26055 is a carbon steel press fitting built for 3/4 inch black iron and carbon steel pipe, pressed with a MegaPress jaw rather than threaded or welded. Don't use it on copper or stainless lines, those take a different fitting family.
2) What is Smart Connect on the Viega 26055 and why does it matter on the job?
Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-connection feature: a joint that hasn't been pressed will leak visibly during pressure test, so you find the missed fitting before you close up the wall or ceiling. On a run with a lot of 90s it's the difference between one test and chasing a leak later.
3) Do I need a street elbow or a regular 3/4 press elbow?
Use the 26055 street elbow when the turn has to come straight off another fitting, since its FTG end inserts into that fitting's press socket. If you're joining two lengths of pipe, you want a press x press elbow instead, both ends sized to accept pipe.
4) How much room does the Viega 26055 3/4 inch street elbow take up in a tight chase?
Overall it measures 3.543 x 3.11 x 1.496 inches and weighs 0.531 lbs. Plan clearance beyond that for the press tool jaw itself, which needs swing room around the socket end.
5) Is the Viega MegaPress 26055 made in the USA?
Yes, the 26055 carbon steel street elbow is made in the USA, which matters if your project carries a domestic sourcing requirement on plumbing materials.
