The 26520 is a street elbow, so it has one press socket and one fitting-end (street) outlet: P x FTG. The press end slips over 3 inch carbon steel pipe and is crimped; the FTG end is sized to insert into the press socket of another 3 inch MegaPress fitting. That lets you make a 90 degree turn straight off a fitting without a short pipe nipple between them.

Use the 26520 street elbow when the turn lands right at another fitting: the FTG end plugs directly into that fitting's press socket, so you save a nipple and the two extra presses that go with it. If you are turning in the middle of a pipe run with pipe on both sides, a standard press x press 90 is the right part instead, because the 26520 has only one press socket.

No cutting oil, no threading, no welding. The 26520 is a press-connect carbon steel elbow: cut the 3 inch pipe square, deburr, mark insertion depth, slide the socket on and crimp it with the matching press tool and 3 inch jaw or ring. That is why crews use it for in-place changes where a torch permit or hot work is a problem.

Smart Connect is a feature of the sealing element that deliberately leaks a small amount at an unpressed connection, so an un-crimped joint shows itself during pressure or leak testing instead of after the ceiling closes. On a 3 inch main with a lot of joints, that is the fastest way to find the one the installer missed.
