It is the right part when you are running 3 inch rigid conduit along a trapeze or strut rack. If you are anchoring directly to concrete or block instead, use a one-hole or two-hole conduit strap, not a strut clamp.
2) What does the EG in Metallics SCR0300 mean, and is it suitable for damp locations?
EG is electrogalvanized zinc plating. It is the standard finish for indoor and dry-to-damp interior conduit support, and it is what most commercial electrical rough-in specs call for on strut clamps.
