Watts 830920 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How does the Watts 152A 3/4 inch steam pressure regulator connect to my piping?
Both ends are 3/4 inch female NPT threaded, inlet and outlet. So it drops into a 3/4 inch threaded line with male nipples or close nipples on each side, no flanges or unions built in. If your line is copper or grooved, you'll need adapters to male NPT at both connections.
2) What outlet pressure can the Watts 0830920 be set to?
Reduced (downstream) pressure adjusts anywhere from 10 to 50 psi. If your process needs less than 10 psi or more than 50, this is the wrong range spring and you want a different 152A pressure range rather than trying to run this one at the edge.
3) What is the maximum inlet pressure on this Watts iron steam regulator?
Maximum working pressure is 200 psi (14 bar). That is the ceiling for the valve body and inlet side; the outlet is what you set between 10 and 50 psi.
4) Does the Watts 0830920 come with a pressure gauge or a strainer?
No on both. Model 830920 ships without a gauge and without an integral strainer. For steam service you'll want to pipe a separate Y-strainer upstream to keep scale and pipe debris off the stainless disc, and add a gauge in the downstream line so you can actually see what you're setting the 10 to 50 psi adjustment to.
5) Is this regulator suitable for potable water or just steam?
The 152A 830920 is a process steam regulator with an iron body and no corrosion resistant coating, built for commercial and industrial process service. It is not a potable water pressure reducing valve. For domestic water service to a building, use a bronze or lead-free water PRV instead.
6) Can this Watts steam regulator be installed in an unheated space?
Minimum rated temperature is 33 degrees F (0.5 C), so it is not rated for freezing conditions. Keep it in a conditioned mechanical room or heat-traced and insulated piping if the space can drop below that.
7) Does this Watts 152A have a thermal expansion bypass?
No. Model 830920 has no thermal expansion bypass, so it will not relieve pressure building back from the downstream side. On a closed system where expansion is a concern, provide separate relief or an expansion tank downstream.
8) What are the wetted trim parts made of on this Watts regulator?
Body is cast iron; the trim and the disc are stainless steel. That combination is what lets it sit in steam service, where a softer disc material would cut out quickly.
