1) Will a 3/8-16 machine screw thread into a standard 3/8 inch UNC tapped hole or nut?
Yes. The Metallics JFM51 is cut to 3/8-16 UNC, 16 threads per inch, to ANSI/ASME B1.1, so it mates with any standard 3/8-16 coarse tapped hole, nut or strut channel nut. If the hole in your gear is 3/8-24 fine thread, this one will not start.
2) Do these machine screws meet a recognized dimensional spec for submittals?
Head, slot and thread dimensions follow ASME B18.6.3-1998 and the threads follow ANSI/ASME B1.1. That is what to cite on a submittal for a flat head slotted machine screw.
