No heat and no tools. That makes it usable in vaults, near fuel, or anywhere an open flame is not allowed.

You still need a connector. The 8426-11 is insulation and sealing only; the electrical joint is made with a separate compression or mechanical connector, then covered. For the copper side, a long barrel compression splice such as the Burndy YS6C Hylink is the kind of connector that goes underneath, provided its barrel stays within the 7.0 in maximum length the tube can cover.

It is rated for continuous service from -40 to 90 degC (-40 to 194 degF), so winter pulls and hot conduit runs are both inside the window. The black EPDM rubber contains no chlorides or sulfur, which matters where corrosion on the connector is a concern.

Yes, the 8426-11 is listed for aluminum conductor, non-shielded solid dielectric power cable at up to 1 kV. Because the rubber contains no chlorides or sulfur, it will not contribute corrosive byproducts at the aluminum connection.

The 3M 8426-11 is specified for non-shielded solid dielectric power cable at 1 kV, in the low voltage class, so it is not the cover for a shielded medium voltage splice - that application needs a shielded cold shrink splice kit with its own stress control and shield continuity. The Burndy YS6C is a copper compression splice, a bare metal connector with no insulation or shielding function at all, so it does not resolve the question either. For shielded MV work, specify the connector and the shielded splice body together to the cable's voltage class.

Order a compression connector such as the Burndy YS6C, a Hylink long barrel copper compression splice, which makes the conductor-to-conductor joint itself. The 3M 8426-11 does not join conductors - it is a cold shrink tube that insulates and mechanically protects a joint after it is made, and it also seals terminal lug barrels, conduit couplings and conduit-to-cable breakouts. Note the 8426-11 is sized for conductors from 3/0 AWG (70 mm2) up to 246 kcmil (125 mm2) on a single conductor, so confirm the connector you pick falls inside that range and inside the 7.0 in connector length allowance.

RoHS 2011/65/EU compliant without exemption. It is not halogen free, so if a project spec calls for halogen-free materials in the cable accessory, this one will not meet it.
