Kraloy 68622 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can this 1 inch PVC elbow be direct buried or encased in concrete?
Yes. The elbow is approved for exposed, concrete encased and direct burial use, which covers typical feeder and lighting runs under slabs, in duct banks, or stubbed up on a wall.
2) Do I need glue for the Kraloy 068622 elbow, or does it thread on?
Solvent weld only. Both ends are plain sockets intended for nonmetallic solvent weld fittings, so you'll need PVC conduit cement. There are no threads on either end, and no coupling is included with the elbow.
3) When would I use a 30 degree PVC elbow instead of a 45 or 90?
A 30 degree bend is for shallow direction changes, where a 45 would overshoot the run. Each bend counts toward the 360 degrees of total bend allowed between pull points, so using two 30s instead of two 45s leaves you more room before you have to add a pull box. For stub-ups out of a slab or a turn up a wall, a 90 is the right part instead.
4) Is this elbow rigid PVC or the thinner Schedule 20 type?
It is impact resistant Schedule 40 rigid nonmetallic PVC. Schedule 40 is the common wall thickness for electrical conduit runs; it is not Schedule 80, so for areas subject to physical damage check whether your spec calls for Sch 80.
5) Will PVC conduit elbows hold up in a car wash or water treatment plant?
Those are exactly the environments this fitting is intended for. Listed applications include car washes, water and sewage treatment plants, marinas, food processing and fish plants, pulp and paper, mines, steel mills, parking garages, subways, bridges and tunnels, airports, street and highway lighting, utilities, agricultural and residential work. PVC is used in those settings because it does not corrode the way steel conduit does in wet or chemical exposure.
6) What part number should I order for the Kraloy 1 inch 30 degree PVC elbow?
Order Kraloy 068622, catalog number 40STD1030. It's sold as a single configuration, so there are no finish or end-type options to specify.
