1) Will a Kraloy 4 inch 22.5 degree PVC elbow glue directly into standard Schedule 40 conduit?
Yes. The Kraloy 4 inch standard elbow is built to the SCH40 dimensional standard in PVC with SPxSP (plain end by plain end) ends, so both ends slip into the bells or couplings of 4 inch Schedule 40 PVC conduit and solvent weld the same way a length of pipe would. Because both ends are plain, you need a bell end, coupling, or belled conduit on each side to make the joint.
2) Can this 4 inch PVC elbow be direct buried or encased in concrete?
Yes on both. The Kraloy 4 inch Schedule 40 PVC elbow is approved for exposed, concrete encased, and direct burial installations, which covers duct banks, under-slab runs, and trenched service laterals as well as surface-mounted work.
3) When should I use a 22.5 degree elbow instead of a 45 or 90?
A 22.5 degree elbow makes a shallow change of direction, useful for easing a duct bank around an obstruction, stepping a run down into a trench, or splitting a 45 into two gentler bends to reduce pulling tension. For a square corner into a pull box or up a wall you want a 90; for a standard offset a 45 is quicker. Note that each 22.5 degree bend still counts toward the total degrees of bend allowed between pull points.
4) Do I need solvent cement, or does this elbow just push on?
It is a solvent weld fitting. The plain SPxSP ends are made for PVC conduit cement into a bell or coupling; there is no gasket or thread. Buy the cement separately, it is not included with the elbow.
