B-LINE 1250B-6512 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the B-Line 50 Series 1250B-6512 photoelectric sensor a through-beam or reflective type?
Through-beam. Model 1250B-6512 in the B-Line 50 Series operates in thru-beam mode, so it needs a matched emitter/receiver pair facing each other across the opening, not a single head bouncing light off a reflector or the target itself. If you only have one side of the opening available for mounting, a reflex or diffuse reflective sensor is the right style instead.
2) Can I run the 1250B-6512 sensor directly off 208V or 240V line power?
Yes. The 50 Series 1250B-6512 takes 180 to 264 Vac input, so it wires straight to a 208V or 240V single-phase supply with no separate 24V DC control transformer. If your panel only has 120V or low-voltage DC control power available, this is the wrong voltage variant for that circuit.
3) Will this photoelectric sensor hold up to washdown or outdoor conditions?
The 50 Series photoelectric sensor carries a NEMA 1, 3, 4, 12 and 13 environmental rating, which covers dust, falling rain, hosedown, and oil or coolant spray, so it suits washdown areas, loading docks and machine tool environments. The body is Noryl with a nylon lens. Operating range is -22 to 158 degrees F (-30 to 70 degrees C), so unheated warehouse and freezer-dock temperatures are within spec.
4) Does the 1250B-6512 come with a cable or do I need a connector and cordset?
It ships as a cabled sensor with a 6.6 ft (2 m) PVC lead attached, so there is no separate quick-disconnect cordset to buy. Plan your junction box or control enclosure within that 6.6 ft run, or splice into it in a suitable box.
5) How do I tell if the beam is blocked or the sensor is aligned during commissioning?
The 50 Series sensor has a red LED that shows output status, so you align the emitter and receiver until the indicator settles, then break the beam to confirm the output changes state. That is the whole alignment check on a through-beam pair, no meter needed at the head.
6) Are the published sensing ranges for 50 Series sensors measured the same way across types?
No, and it matters when you compare models. Ranges for reflex sensors are based on a 3-inch retroreflector, while diffuse reflective ranges are based on a 90 percent reflectance card. A dark or matte target will read shorter than the published diffuse figure. A through-beam pair like the 1250B-6512 avoids that variable entirely because it senses the beam, not the reflectivity of the object.
7) What relay or load can I switch with the 1250B-6512 photoelectric sensor?
Contact rating on the 50 Series depends on the output device fitted, so size the load to the output stage rather than assuming a general-purpose relay rating. For anything beyond a light control or PLC input, drive an interposing relay or contactor rated for your load and let the sensor switch only the coil.
