B-LINE 1380B-6501 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the B-Line 80 Series 1380B-6501 sensor need a separate reflector or receiver?
No. Model 1380B-6501 is a diffuse reflective photoelectric head, so the emitter and receiver are in the same 2 inch housing and it senses light bounced straight back off the target. There is no reflector to mount and no second unit to align across the opening. If your application needs long range or reliable detection of dark, matte, or irregular targets, a retroreflective or through-beam style head is the better choice, because diffuse sensing depends on the target's own reflectivity.
2) Can the 80 Series photoelectric sensor head be used in a washdown or wet area?
Yes, within reason. The head carries NEMA 1, 3, 4, 12 and 13 ratings, so it is rated for indoor dust and dirt, outdoor rain and sleet, hose-directed water, and oil or coolant spray. That covers most food plant washdown and machine-tool coolant duty. It is not a hazardous location or submersion rating, so keep it out of classified areas and off any spot that floods.
3) Will this photoelectric sensor work in an unheated warehouse or a cold room?
Its operating range runs from -4 to 131 degrees F (-20 to 55 degrees C), so an unheated warehouse, loading dock, or a normal cooler is within range. A sub-zero freezer at -10 F or lower is outside it, and so is a hot process area or an oven surround above 131 F. Watch radiant heat from nearby machinery, not just ambient air.
4) What is the housing made of on the B-Line 80 Series sensor head, and will it stand up to coolant?
The enclosure is Noryl, a glass-reinforced PPO/PPE thermoplastic that holds up well to water, most coolants, and cleaning chemicals, and it will not corrode the way a plated metal body can. Paired with the NEMA 4/12/13 rating, that suits it to washdown and machine-tool environments. Strong aromatic solvents are the usual exception with this family of plastics, so check the fluid before mounting it in a solvent mist.
5) What part number do I order for the B-Line 80 Series diffuse photoelectric head?
Order B-Line model 1380B-6501. That is the single configuration of the 80 Series diffuse reflective head, so there is no finish, range, or output suffix to pick, which keeps it easy to standardize across a plant or a facility spares crib.
