B-LINE 13150AF15L14 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the B-Line Prism 13150AF15L14 photoelectric sensor need a separate reflector or receiver?
No. Model 13150AF15L14 is a diffuse reflective sensor, so emitter and receiver are in the one tubular body and it senses light bounced straight back off the target. No reflector and no opposing receiver to align, which is why it suits tight conveyor and machine-guard spots where you can only mount on one side.
2) Can I switch a contactor coil or motor directly with this photoelectric sensor?
Not a motor, and check the coil first. Output is an isolated solid state relay rated 80 mA at 132 Vac and 110 mA at 132 Vdc, so it is a pilot-duty signal device. Anything drawing more than that needs an interposing relay or a PLC input between the sensor and the load. There is current limiting built in for loads under 32V AC or DC.
3) Is this sensor OK in a washdown area or outdoors?
Yes. The Prism tubular photoelectric sensor carries NEMA 1, 3, 4, 4X, 6, 6P, 12 and 13 ratings, which covers hosedown, corrosion-resistant duty and temporary submersion. The lens is polycarbonate, the body is structural polyurethane foam and the cable jacket is PVC, so there is no painted metal housing to corrode in a food or wet process area.
4) Is this photoelectric sensor pre-wired, or do I have to plug a cordset into it?
Pre-wired. Model 13150AF15L14 ships with an attached 15 ft (4.6 m) PVC cable, so there is no quick-disconnect cordset to buy separately. If your panel run is longer than 15 feet you will be splicing in a junction box.
5) Will the Prism sensor hold up in a cold warehouse or near an oven line?
Rated operating range is -13 to 131 F (-25 to 55 C). That covers unheated docks and coolers at the low end, but it is not a high-temperature sensor, so keep it back off radiant heat from ovens or dryers.
6) How can a technician tell at a glance whether the sensor is seeing the target?
There is a red LED on the sensor that shows output status, so a maintenance tech can confirm the sensor is triggering on a passing part without meters or opening the panel. Useful during setup when you are walking the target past the lens to set aim.
