Viega 95020 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What material is the Viega 95020 MegaPress elbow, and can it be used on a potable line?
It is 304 stainless steel. Stainless gives corrosion resistance for compressed air, hydronic and industrial service where carbon steel would rust. For potable water Viega publishes its own approved system list by fitting family, so match the fitting family to the application spec on your drawing rather than assuming from the alloy.
2) How much space do I need to fit a 1-1/2 inch MegaPress 90 elbow in a tight ceiling?
The 95020 elbow measures 5.354 inches long by 5.354 inches wide with a height of 2.437 inches, and it weighs 1.51 lbs. Allow for that footprint plus tool jaw clearance around each socket, since the press tool needs to seat square on the fitting to make the joint.
3) What is Smart Connect on the Viega 95020 and what does it do for me on inspection day?
Smart Connect is a deliberate leak path built into the sealing element so an unpressed joint weeps during pressure test instead of passing quietly. On a 1-1/2 inch run with several elbows, it is how you find the connection somebody missed before the ceiling closes.
