Viega 95515 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Viega 95515 MegaPress elbow carbon steel or stainless?
It is 304 stainless steel. That matters on the order form, because MegaPress is sold in both a carbon steel line and a stainless line and they are not the same part. If your run is black iron carbon steel pipe, the stainless 95515 is not the matching fitting for it.
2) What pipe size does the 2-1/2 inch MegaPress 90 degree street elbow fit?
Both ends are 2-1/2 inch, and the press end accepts 2-1/2 inch IPS pipe. The street end is the same nominal size, so the whole turn stays full 2-1/2 inch with no reduction.
3) What is Smart Connect on a Viega MegaPress fitting?
Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-joint feature: a connection left unpressed will leak during the pressure test so the installer finds it before the system is closed up. On a job with dozens of 2-1/2 inch joints behind a ceiling, that is the practical reason inspectors and contractors accept press over welding.
