Viega 98390 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Viega 98390 elbow stainless or carbon steel, and what pipe does it go on?
It is 316 stainless steel, so it is the stainless MegaPress line rather than the carbon steel version. Match the fitting to the pipe system you are pressing: a 316 stainless body is what you want where the carbon steel fitting would be the wrong metallurgy for the line.
2) What is Smart Connect on this Viega MegaPress fitting and do I still have to press it?
Smart Connect is the unpressed-connection feature built into the 98390 elbow. Yes, every joint still gets pressed with the correct jaw or ring for 2-1/2 inch; the feature exists so an unpressed joint shows itself during pressure test rather than staying hidden behind a wall.
3) Is the Viega 98390 made in the USA?
No. The 98390 MegaPress stainless elbow is made in Germany, which is worth knowing if your project carries a domestic-content requirement on the submittal.
