Viega 91725 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Viega 91725 elbow stainless or carbon steel, and does that matter for what I run through it?
It's 316 stainless steel, not carbon. That matters: carbon steel MegaPress bodies are the usual choice for black iron gas and closed-loop lines, while the 316 stainless version is what you reach for where corrosion resistance is the concern. Match the fitting material to the rest of your run.
2) Will the Viega 91725 press onto 1/2 inch copper tube?
No. MegaPress fittings press onto black, galvanized, and other iron pipe sizes, not copper tube. The 91725 press end is sized for 1/2 inch pipe. For 1/2 inch copper you want a ProPress copper or stainless press fitting instead.
3) What is Smart Connect on this Viega elbow and why do contractors care?
Smart Connect is the feature designed into the 91725's press end that leaves an unpressed connection visibly leaking under test, so an overlooked joint shows itself during pressure testing rather than after the wall closes. It does not replace a press, it just makes a missed one obvious.
