American Standard 9EXT-48GRL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the American Standard 2848 gelcoat extension kit left hand or right hand?
Right hand. The 9EXT-48GR gelcoat extension kit is the right-hand version, so the orientation of the bathing unit it extends has to be right hand as well. A left-hand opening needs the left-hand kit instead, not this one.
2) Will the 9EXT-48GR kit work with a 30 x 60 tub or shower?
No. This is the 2848 kit, meaning it is matched to the 28 x 48 American Standard gelcoat unit. Extension kits are size-specific, so a 30 x 60 opening needs the kit built for that unit.
3) What colors does the American Standard 9EXT-48GR extension kit come in?
Two gelcoat colors: WIB White (9EXT-48GRW) and WIB Linen (9EXT-48GRL). Those are the only two, so match the color to the bathing unit already installed. On a fleet of units, ordering the wrong shade of white is the usual mistake, and White and Linen are not interchangeable in a finished bathroom.
4) Is the American Standard 2848 gelcoat extension kit a finished panel or a plumbing part?
It is a gelcoat extension kit, meaning finished gelcoat wall extension pieces for a 28 x 48 bathing unit, supplied in a color to match the unit. It is not a valve, drain, or trim part, so a plumber ordering it should expect a finish component that installs against the wall surface.
