American Standard 1660143.295 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the American Standard FloWise hand shower come with a hose and wall supply elbow?
No. The FloWise Traditional 3-function hand shower ships as the spray head only, so you still need a hose and a wall connection (supply elbow or slide bar bracket) to make it work. Budget for both when you order, or you will have a handshower you cannot hook up. A check valve is included with the head.
2) What flow rate does the FloWise 1660143 hand shower run at, and does it meet 2.0 GPM restrictions?
Maximum flow is 2.0 gpm (7.6 Lpm). The turbine spray setting drops to 1.5 gpm, and the head auto-returns to that 1.5 gpm setting, so day to day use lands below the 2.0 gpm ceiling. American Standard rates it at up to 40 percent water savings.
3) What are the three spray settings on this American Standard 3-function hand shower?
Three patterns: turbine spray at 1.5 gpm max, full spray at 2.0 gpm max, and a combination of the two at 2.0 gpm max. Whenever flow is shut off, the head returns on its own to the 1.5 gpm turbine setting, so the next user starts on the low-flow pattern unless they change it.
4) Will this hand shower hold a steady spray on a building with fluctuating water pressure?
It has a pressure-compensating flow control device built in, which holds the rated flow steady as line pressure moves around. That is the behavior you want in multi-family or hotel risers where pressure swings when other fixtures run.
5) Is the American Standard FloWise 1660143 hand shower rated for commercial use?
American Standard classifies it as a residential fixture. It is a reasonable fit for apartments, condos, and single-family turns; for high-abuse commercial washrooms or correctional and institutional work, look at hardware specified for commercial duty instead.
6) What finish does the FloWise 1660143 hand shower come in?
Brushed nickel, ordered as part number 1660143.295. If the other trim in the bath is polished chrome or matte black, this head will not match it, so pick the handshower to the existing hose and supply elbow finish.
7) Can the spray angle be adjusted after it is mounted in a bracket?
Yes, the head is angle adjustable, so it can be aimed while sitting in a wall bracket or slide bar rather than only used in the hand. Useful for accessible bathing setups where a seated user needs the spray pointed down.
8) Does this hand shower need a separate backflow preventer?
A check valve is already built into the FloWise hand shower, which is the backflow protection handshowers are normally required to carry. No add-on check valve is needed at the head.
